Reduced voluntary movement can begin with the expected pharmacological effect, while thickness, volume, fatty change or architecture is measured differently over time by ultrasound, MRI or standardized images. A systematic review found atrophy signals in animal and limited human studies, but muscles, doses, repeat exposure and methods were heterogeneous. A small glabellar muscle and a large chewing muscle such as the masseter do not share one volume outcome.
Weight change, hydration, light, head angle, clenching, aging, filler reduction and fat compartments affect facial contour. Repeat baseline photographs under matched conditions and record rest and contraction examination, measurement location and prior doses. Ultrasound or MRI can show change in one muscle, but cannot alone determine whole-face appearance or permanence.
