How should rheology, G-prime and cohesivity claims for dermal fillers be read?

G-prime, viscosity, elasticity and cohesivity describe different aspects of laboratory behavior; one high or low value does not make a filler better, more natural or safer. The test method, temperature, frequency and intended clinical target need to be disclosed.

  • The same named measure may not be comparable across instruments and test conditions.

The measures are not interchangeable

G-prime describes storage modulus and one aspect of elastic behavior; loss modulus describes a viscous component; complex viscosity reflects resistance to flow. Cohesivity addresses how a gel mass holds together, using several possible tests. Crosslinking, HA concentration and particle structure also matter. One number cannot summarize all properties or predict tissue behavior.

Ask about test conditions

Temperature, frequency, strain, measurement geometry, sample preparation and instrument change results. A manufacturer's comparison within its own portfolio may not share a scale with an independent laboratory or another method. A marketing graph without axes, units, uncertainty and lot count cannot support ranking. Laboratory data do not replace human clinical evidence.

Limits of clinical translation

A deep support area, mobile lip and thin superficial tissue may need different material behavior, but G-prime alone cannot select a product. Authorized area, depth, anatomy, motion, prior filler and target volume belong in the decision. Superiority requires direct comparative outcome and safety evidence; a theoretical property is not a personal result prediction.
