Editorial general information — not a clinical-review record

Published: Updated: Publisher: Dr. Murat Toktamışoğlu

What does today's comparison of exosome products and PRP show—and not show?

An exosome product and PRP are not the same: PRP is prepared from the person's blood, while extracellular-vesicle products may come from different cells, tissues or other biological sources and manufacturing processes. A small 2025 split-face study reported similar short-term changes with RF microneedling, but one trial is not proof of general equivalence.

Direct answer

  • The effect of RF microneedling on both sides must be considered independently of the two biological products.
  • Platelet concentration is a PRP quality question; source and characterization are separate questions for exosome products.
  • Similar average outcomes do not establish identical risk, durability, regulation or individual response.

Define what is being compared

PRP varies with blood collection, anticoagulant, centrifugation, platelet and leukocyte content, activation and route. A product sold as exosomes varies with cell source, separation, carrier, vesicle identity, sterility and batch consistency. The exact study protocols, rather than two broad labels, therefore need comparison.

How to read a single study

A split-face design can reduce person-level differences such as age, genetics and sun history. Yet a small sample, short follow-up, one center, a specific product and shared RF microneedling cannot resolve rare risk, long duration or the products' standalone effects. Finding no significant difference does not prove the approaches equivalent in every respect.

Questions needed for a decision

Discuss a defined skin target, the exact preparation or product record for each option, route, relevance of evidence to similar people, alternatives, cost and a complication plan. Autologous does not make PRP automatically effective, and cell-free does not make an exosome product automatically safe. Turkish regulatory status and no treatment require separate consideration.
