Editorial general information — not a clinical-review record

A safe HIFU area is not simply a template drawn on skin. Orbital and bony margins, thyroid, major vessels, locations where facial nerves become superficial, implants and individual anatomy need assessment; a standard map is insufficient, and some areas sit outside a device's labeling.

The device's intended areas, contraindications and special warnings form the first boundary. Add assessment of orbital structures, bony edges, thyroid, trachea, major vessels, parotid region and nerve courses. Universal dot maps online cannot reveal personal tissue thickness, asymmetry or earlier procedures. The availability of a device is not, by itself, a reason to treat an area outside its labeled scope.
Motor and sensory nerves can run more superficially in selected facial regions. Weight loss, age, congenital asymmetry, scars, surgery or filler may alter tissue planes. A transducer's nominal focal depth does not mean the true anatomical distance is identical at every line. When available, visualization may assist; its presence or absence cannot replace anatomical training or a patient-specific examination.
Stop if treatment causes a visual change or flash, an electrical sensation, radiating sharp pain, muscle twitching or sudden weakness. Persistent numbness, asymmetry, muscle weakness, swallowing difficulty or a visual symptom should not be left to routine recovery. Record area, transducer, depth, energy, line and event time, and arrange urgent assessment in the relevant specialty when the symptom requires it.
