Editorial general information — not a clinical-review record

A multilayer or three-pass HIFU label does not by itself mean a more effective treatment. The transducer depth, line direction, energy, overlap, anatomical target and contribution to total dose of each pass should be explained; a research protocol cannot simply be copied to another device.

A pass may mean repeating the same transducer, adding a second depth or merely changing line direction. The number therefore needs transducer, depth, energy, line spacing and total lines. A marketing label is not an anatomical rationale. Unrecognized overlap can create greater local energy density than the total count shown on a console suggests.
Studies comparing single and dual depths used a particular visualized system, selected participants and defined energy constraints. Systematic reviews show substantial protocol variation. Those papers do not validate another focus geometry, cartridge, software or a 4D/7D marketing system. An average study response cannot identify the optimal number of passes for one person.
Record transducer, depth, energy, lines and pass direction by area. Do not continue merely to finish a plan when there is unexpected sharp pain, lost contact, a visualization problem, muscle twitch or a marked surface change. Predetermined total dose and anatomical boundaries should not change to meet a sales target during the session. Neither one nor multiple passes is inherently superior without examination.
