Editorial general information — not a clinical-review record

Removal of permanent and non-HA filler materials may be difficult, partial or sometimes impossible. A promise of 'one-session dissolution' is unreliable without product identity, tissue spread, scarring and complication assessment; surgery and other interventions also create new risks.

PMMA, silicone, calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid and HA behave differently in tissue. Some may remain as particles or through biostimulatory effects. Remembering an old procedure only as 'filler' does not determine a removal option; labels, patient cards and practitioner records should be sought.
Examination assesses location, firmness and inflammatory signs. Appropriate high-frequency ultrasound may help show some deposits and tissue relationships but does not identify every product with certainty. Laboratory testing, culture or pathology may be required when infection, granuloma or another condition is considered.
Surgical excision, drainage or other procedures carry risks of scarring, deformity, neurovascular injury and incomplete removal. Intervention for asymptomatic material is different from management of active infection or loss of function. The aim is not a total-removal slogan but safe management based on diagnosis and individual risk-benefit balance.
